InterNoise 2015 Helping Students & Young Professionals
Young Professionals I-INCE Grants & Workshop
The 2015 Young Professional I-INCE Grant winners are announced for INTER-NOISE 2015.
Join us in a new Inter-noise tradition and participate in the Young Professionals Workshop. Share some snacks and drinks with your peers and senior I-INCE members, and attend short presentations on topics of interest to young engineers and scientists. See the YP Workshop Agenda
Student Volunteer Opportunities
Student volunteers are needed to provide back-up support to InterNoise 2015 technical sessions. Volunteers will attend assigned sessions and make themselves available in the event that the session chair and/or technical staff need additional assistance. Volunteers will receive free registration to the conference and an InterNoise T-shirt. This would be an excellent networking opportunity and sessions will be assigned to match student interests and availability. Schedule will allow for activities such as paper presentations. Contact Dana Lodico for more information (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Student Paper Competition
INCE/USA Student Paper Competition
The INCE Foundation once again is sponsoring the student paper competition, with up to 5 awards given to the most outstanding papers. Winners of the INCE Foundation Awards will receive $500 US, plus an additional $500 if they attend the INCE Award Ceremony. If a winning paper is expanded, peer reviewed, and accepted for publication in the Noise Control Engineering Journal, the student will receive an additional $500 Award.
Click Here for details on how to apply. When you submit your abstract, also indicate you plan to register for the Student Paper Competition.
Classic Papers in Noise Control Engineering Presentation Competition
INCE/USA is sponsoring a special session of seminal noise control papers open to students, “Classic Papers in Noise Control Engineering”. Students should pick one of the papers listed. Awards will be given based on the presentation itself. An abstract and a brief paper should be submitted. The application deadline is the same as the abstract submission deadline: 28 March, 2015. The paper deadline is 22 May, 2015. Contest rules and the list of classic papers may be downloaded here and the application may be downloaded here. Note that as papers are chosen, they will be removed from the list. The abstract, paper and presentation should focus on the main thrust of the original paper, which could also include additional work that has been done by the student presenter. Additional work could include reproduction of the results in the paper, additional analysis, or showing how the original paper has influenced subsequent research or noise control practice, etc. To submit your abstract and paper, see the “Classic Papers in Noise Control Engineering”, Session 21.01, on the Abstract and Paper Submission pages of this website.
INCE/USA Travel Awards
Michiko So Finegold Award for graduate student/young professional travel
For the third year INCE/USA is pleased to be able to offer the Michiko So Finegold Award, supporting U.S. graduate students and young professionals traveling to InterNoise 2015 to present their work on noise effects research, development of noise policy and related aspects of noise control engineering. This year multiple awards are available – qualified graduate students/young professionals need to be nominated using the form available here. Applications will be processed as received. If you are a graduate student or young professional please ask for a nomination to be submitted on your behalf from a current/former professor or supervisor. This award is funded by the INCE Foundation through an endowment from the Michiko So Finegold Memorial Trust.
Hallberg Foundation Award for student travel
For the second year INCE/USA is pleased to be able to offer the Hallberg Foundation award, supporting North American undergraduate or graduate students traveling to InterNoise 2015 to present their work in any area of noise control engineering. Multiple awards will be offered. As with the Michiko So Finegold Award, qualified students need to be nominated using the form available here, and applications will be processed as received. If you are a current student please contact a professor to complete the nomination form on your behalf. This award is funded by the INCE Foundation through an endowment from the Elizabeth L. and Russell F. Hallberg Foundation.
A person who has won any of the student/young professional awards previously is not eligible this year for that same award. A person may be nominated for both travel awards but will only be able to receive one of them. Participating in Student Paper Competition does not affect eligibility for either of the travel awards. Awardees are determined solely by the INCE Honors and Awards Committee and any independent volunteers who may be solicited by the committee. The INCE Honors and Awards Committee will make awards based on nominee/applicant qualifications and available funding. Many thanks to the generous donors who make these awards possible.
The Noise Control and Acoustics Division will sponsor “Best Student Paper Award”. The winner will receive an acknowledgement certificate and a monetary award. To be eligible for participation in this competition, the primary author must be a student and must present at the conference. The author must also select ASME for their paper affiliation. Advisors must send an e-mail to Kristin Cody (email@example.com) for their students to be eligible.
Hyundai Motor Company
The Hyundai Motor Company is sponsoring a student paper competition for papers on Automotive Sound Quality. Authors of winning papers will receive 800 USD. Up to three prizes will be awarded. Please indicate your desire to be considered in this competition when submitting your abstract
The Board of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) has approved I-INCE Young Professional Congress Attendance Grants (YP Grants) to assist young professionals/engineers in attending the 44th International Congress on Noise Control Engineering (INTER-NOISE 2015) to be held in San Francisco, California, USA, 2015 August 9 – 12. I-INCE has allocated the funds to support at least 15 grants, each having a value of 600 EUR. The YP Grant will include complimentary registration for the Congress. The remainder of the 600 EUR grant will be available at the time of the Congress in U.S. Dollars as a contribution to partially cover travel and accommodation expenses. The notification of the award of the prestigious YP Grant may be used to assist with obtaining additional funding from other sources.
Candidates must be relatively early in their professional careers (typically less than 10 years of active career). They can be either undergraduate or postgraduate students, postdoctoral, or young acousticians or noise control engineers working in industry. Preference will be given to students.
Prior grant winners are not eligible for the Young Professionals Grant.
